WHAT I’M CURRENTLY WRITING
At the moment I’m working on historical romances set in late 19th century England and France. I also have a late 19th century romance set in Argentina that I’m itching to rewrite.
WHY LATE 19th CENTURY ROMANCE?
Too many Merchant Ivory films and BBC costume dramas in my formative years? Probably. But also a fascination with late 19th century arts, crafts, and music, and with the fast changing social and political environment that informed them—class mobility, geographical mobility, the changing role of religion in society, the rise of the media, tensions surrounding industrialisation, science, and exploitation of the natural environment—
You get the idea.
WHAT ABOUT OTHER TIME PERIODS AND GENRES?
Like most fiction writers I have a bunch of plot bunnies waiting in the wings—Edwardian romance, women’s fiction set in the 1930s, and speculative fiction in various settings, including the Victorian goldfields (Australia, 1850s).
But for now, one thing at a time.
